It’s that time of year again, folks! The holidays! The time to spread joy, cheer, and indulge in all things peppermint and pumpkin! With all of these festivities around the corner, we have to prep ourselves for the delicious meals we’ll have, and also be mindful of our health. Allyn Lewis has a great article with 5 Tips for Staying Healthy Around the Holidays, and I definitely recommend reading that! But if you’re here because you’re like me, and you just wanna eat everything in sight, definitely read on because I’m gonna be sharing my advice on how to snack to stay healthy during the holidays!
First, I have to admit that I’m not the best at keeping at a diet, if at all, during any time of the year let alone the Holidays. But I do like to keep my cravings at bay by snacking. I am what you call a professional snacker. Kidding! But if there was such a title, that would definitely be one of mine. I’ve found some awesome snacks, and I’m not talking about those typical #TreatYoSelf snacks that basically consist of ice cream and brownies – I’m talking snacks that are actually pretty good for you, packed with nutrients and good things to munch on aside from the occasional bag of chips/pint of ice cream.
Since I’m a big snack fiend, I want to share some of my favorite healthy snacks that have helped me stay a little healthier during this time of year.
What I love about snack bars is that they’re a no brainer. I just want to dedicate an ode to whoever invented bars because whoever thought of its= is a genius! Not only are they extremely tasty, but they are the quickest way to snack on the go! You pick up your favorite flavor of whatever bar it is and boom you’re done! One of my favorites as happen to be the Rise Bar!
Rise Bar is amazing because they don’t over complicate anything, and their bars are made with real food ingredients, high quality protein, and equal amounts of deliciousness – it’s the simplest protein bar. Literally. Their most popular flavor, almond honey is only made with 3 ingredients! How neat is that? And not to mention, these bars are the perfect way to fuel you for any adventure! And what do you get with an adventurer who loves to snack on healthy things while on the go? ME! My personal favorites have been the Almond Honey and Snickerdoodle. YUM!
I used to be one of those people who’d only snack on the chocolates in trail mix, but as of late I’ve been picking out just the nuts! I try to avoid any sugary flavored or salted nuts, since the best way to eat nuts is raw. Nuts have been linked to adding an extra boost of energy, weight loss, and lowering cholesterol – so what’s not to love? There are plenty of nuts to choose from, so I would definitely find your favorite of the bunch and add it as a snack to keep by your desk (trust me, they’re the perfect brain fuel!). I like to mix a few of my favorites, cashews and almonds, and eat those on their own or if I’m feeling some kinds of fancy I’ll throw in some raisins and even create my own trail mix! I keep these to the side in a snack bag ready to go whenever I’m in a pinch for something delicious!
So I’ve also been on a pressed juice kick lately. I love how fresh and tasty pressed juices are, and as equally as nutritional when it comes down to it. Lately, I’ve been loving Daily Greens. Packed with probiotics, these bad boys are SO GOOD. I haven’t had a green juice be infused with vanilla before, so it was definitely a nice treat compared to the usual green juices I’ve tried in the past. I’m a huge fan of the Greenie and Berry Nice! The Cocoa Loco is a nice dessert juice, I feel like. Definitely keep a look out for these juices if you’re in a pinch of a delicious treat!
What’s neat about Daily Greens is that it was created by Shauna Martin, who is not only a breast cancer survivor, but someone who loved the ritual of drinking a green juice every day that she wanted to share that with everyone she knew. With the delicious drinks she has been concocting, it’s also amazing to see the philanthropy work she’s done in giving back to the community especially because a portion of sales goes to organizations that support young women battling cancer.
Fruit and Yogurt
I’m not a fan of fruit or yogurt alone, but together – you’ve got me hooked! I’m a big fan of throwing in granola, chopped apples, raisins, along with cinnamon and honey all on top of some greek yogurt. Or if I’m in a pinch, I’ll opt for Chobani’s greek yogurt with fruit – some are mixed in and some are at the bottom like a parfait! What I love about greek yogurt is how filling and packed with protein it is. I can usually have this for breakfast and as a snack during the day, and it’s perfect especially when I’m craving something sweet! *Reaching for a spoonful of pumpkin greek yogurt as I type*
Snacks are always the solution, well at least in my case. Side note – Whether or not you found this helpful, I am so thankful for you guys taking the time out to read my little blurb on this space I call my own.
In turn, I want to know… what are your favorite snacks? Healthy or not! Send those suggestions my way!
