Ok, I hate to be THAT person, but it’s Mercury Retrograde and damn, I’ve already felt all of the weird energy in these last few weeks! If you didn’t know, Mercury Retrograde is upon us and I’m here to share that Mercury Retrograde is not to be feared! That is if you know how to survive it.
I’ve been a victim of Mercury Retrograde in the past where travel plans got SO effed up – like missing my flight even though I arrived in the nick of time, my cell phone acting funky and not navigating correctly while in a different city, and lastly tons of miscommunications between me and my loved ones! These are just a few instances I’ve experienced myself, and IT IS NOT FUN!
Now I’m no expert at astrology, but here are some things I wish I knew a long long time ago during this turbulent time we call Mercury Retrograde. And by no means do you have to understand astrology or this “woo-woo stuff” to truly understand the effects of Mercury Retrograde.
SO LET’S TALK ABOUT IT – WTF IS MERCURY RETROGRADE?
Mercury is the planet of day-to-day expression and communication. So when Mercury Retrograde occurs, it’s when the planet appears to be going backward in the sky. Though all planets retrograde, Mercury has the most impact on people. This means a lot of miscommunications, delays, and issues with technology. I’ve honestly only learned about Mercury Retrograde recently, thanks to my good friend and astrological guide, Leslie Colon!
At least twice a year, Mercury appears to be going reverse in the sky. And during that period, it’s the time to go back to things that need to be worked on. Depending on where Mercury hits in your chart is your main focus. But what anyone should be aware of during Mercury Retrograde is – don’t be falling in love, don’t sign contracts, and don’t make any huge commitments because it’s a time where you need to fix things that weren’t fixed in the past. If you were to start something new during Mercury Retograde, it’s basically saying that project won’t finish because it’s starting during a time of unfinished grounds, and it’d always be unsteady – Mercury Retrograde is a time to focus on older things that need your attention, not focus on new things. – Leslie Colon
So trust me when I say, Mercury Retrograde can be a total B*! I’ve shared a few of my own experiences, and they are NO fun, which is why you should always be prepared! This time around, Mercury Retrograde is in effect March 22 – April 15th, July 26 – August 18, 2018, and November 16 – December 6! Some people will be able to feel the effects of Mercury Retrograde sometimes a week prior or after! So keep those dates handy, and understand that this shift in energies can surely affect your day to day life!
TIPS FOR SURVIVAL
Because Mercury Retrograde can cause a lot of mishaps in communication, public transportation, travel, technology – it’s best to prepare yourself! How you ask? Well here are a few suggestions:
- back up your data – you never know when your phone or computer poops out on you, and sadly a lot of the time it can happen during Mercury Retrograde!
- avoid any huge commitments, this means contracts and maybe any big plans you have during that time
- be prepared to possibly run into people from your past
- travel plans can be awry, so check twice when making plans to travel! This means documentation, flight details, and all of that good stuff
- focus on finishing up or revisiting old projects before starting something new
Slow the f*ck down
Alright, I know I’m not the best at practicing this myself, but I do feel letting go and slowing down with plans really helps. This also means to avoid making any major commitments because anything can go astray – think of Mercury Retrograde adding a cloud of doubt to all the things you’re communicating – there’s still so much to be uncovered, and yet if you make any huge commitments you can’t back out of – you probably won’t be in the best situation. Also, just slow down because this is the best time to just listen to your needs before tending to anything else.
Comfort yourself and reflect
I like to take this time to look back at my progression. Since it’s time to slow down, I like to relax a little bit more than usual, journal a lot more, and sip on some comforting tea. I’ve been enjoying Herb & Nectar’s Retrograde Tea Blend lately and for so many reasons! This Retrograde blend is Usui Reiki + Smoky Quartz Crystal Infused and so so tasty! It contains lemon balm, oat tops, passionflower, and hibiscus. Though it is made to aid in retrograde, it’s also best for those who may go through stress and anxiety (another double whammy for me!).
I’ve drunk this tea during retrograde and also on normal days. It tastes delicious, doesn’t need any sweetener, and definitely helps in comforting me and easing my stresses. I like to make myself a cup of tea, cozy up with a ton of blankets and pillows, and just pour my heart and my crazy thoughts into my journal or if I don’t feel like physically writing, I audio record myself! I also drink this before or after I meditate sometimes!
Allow yourself to be pulled in different directions, aka go with the flooow
This is something I have the most trouble with – I am such a planner and organizer (I mean, Virgo shit, amiright?!), and I’ve realized with the little things I tend to want to control, Mercury Retrograde totally nudges me in a different direction. This is the perfect advice, which also works for anything going on with your life, just go with the flow! You never know what’s going to happen, and especially in such a turbulent time of Mercury Retrograde where things are just off – just let go, and let live, and take anything with a grain of salt.
Major shoutout to the babes from Herb + Nectar! They were kind enough to gift me this tea and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since! Needless to say, this post was inspired by Mercury Retrograde and this delicious tea. So I just had to share!
