Happy Labor Day and first day of September everybody! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. And since most of us are spending this day as a holiday instead of a work day, very little motivation is needed. But I did want to share this quote since it’s something I feel like everyone should live by!
Okay, so this may be a little lengthy, but bare with me! The subject of self improvement is one I feel is very subjective. I know a lot of people who are very closed minded about it altogether, while some are extremely open to it. I am part of the latter. Then again, I wouldn’t have been open to it if I didn’t go through my past experience (heartache, rejection and the need for growth). Sometimes we feel like we don’t need to improve at all because we are totally fine. The idea of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” came to mind, and I feel like some people need to break to be fixed. That was me at one point. To be honest, if I worked on myself long ago I probably could’ve saved my past relationship. Though it’s in the past, it’s a thought that crosses my mind a lot.
Moving on, self improvement is an act of bettering yourself FOR yourself. It’s all about growth and your own personal happiness. We have one life to live and we should want to be able to live it happily, healthily and in the best possible way! So for me, this means I need to take care of myself and keep myself on my toes. And I couldn’t have said it better than Ralph Waldo Emerson himself. Make the most out of your life because it’s the only one you have… make it worth while!
I’ve been following The Everygirl for quite some time and they have a 30 day challenge this month pertaining to self improvement. By dedicating 20 minutes of your day each day to an opportunity of self improvement/growth it can bring out drastic results by the end of that 30 day journey. This can vary from learning a new language, a new workout regimen, mediation, or reading on self improvement. Basically anything under the sun that will help YOU.
I think this is an awesome idea, and even though I believe I practice self improvement and growth everyday, it’ll be fun to track my progress this way too. For the 30 day challenge I’m going to attempt yoga every day for 30 days. I’ve tried it once already, and boy did I work up a sweat! In addition to that, I want to challenge myself to living a healthier lifestyle – food and fitness wise! So we shall see how this goes, but I do hope for nothing but the best!
Here are some helpful reminders that help me, and I hope will help you on your self improvement journey:
- Do it for YOUrself
- Be open minded to change – it’s good for you
- You won’t see results overnight, but don’t let that stop you
- Stay positive
- Most importantly, have fun!
Self improvement isn’t daunting at all. It’s for YOU. And you are the only you there is, so make the most of yourself!
