So I’ve been on an epic foodie binge lately and I’ve found some amazing spots to eat at. It’s like San Diego has a new eatery opening up every other week – but I’m definitely not complaining! Today’s foodie adventure was to Streetcar Merchants, a new corner cafe/eatery in North Park. I first started seeing pictures of their square shaped donuts and coffee popping up on my Instagram feed. And if that wasn’t enough, they had a variety of fried chicken AND waffles on their menu. So this made it’s way on the top of my ‘must go to’ places from 0 to 100!
Located on the corner of 30th and Lincoln, Streetcar Merchants is officially one of my favorite places to eat. I love the open seating that extends to an outside patio and how welcoming the staff is. First thing you see when you come in is a case full of a variety of donuts – with flavors from German Chocolate, Horchata, and even Creamsicle. First thing I tried on the menu was the Horchata Donut. I. AM. OBSESSED! I’m a huge fan of horchata anything, and this literally took the cake. My friend had the Mango Strawberry Donut and that was just as amazing. I don’t want to say I’m picky with donuts, but these (dare I say?) are so much better than the hyped up donuts from Donut Bar. They’re fluffy and the flavors taste so fresh and non artificial.
Aside from the donuts, I really wanted to try the chicken and waffles because SD doesn’t have a Roscoe’s nor does it have a decent spot for chicken and waffles. I got the K-Town Twice Fried Chicken with a waffle. And my friend got the Southern Fried Chicken with a waffle. Between the two, I liked my choice of chicken the best – purely because of the Sriracha mayo that was on top! YUM! And paired with a sweet waffle? It was the perfect mix. I would definitely go back and order it again.
Next up, their coffee! They use Intelligentsia, their world renowned coffee partner. I don’t know much about them aside from the fact that I like their coffee… A lot. I got a regular latte, and I loved the bold flavor on its own. My friend opted for an iced mocha, and from the look she gave me – it was literally love at first sip! I had a try, and I was immediately sold as well!
Would I go here again? In a heartbeat! The service was on point and the food was freshly prepared and delicious. What more can you ask for, right? Definitely give this place a go if you’re in the area or looking for your chicken and waffle fix!
