If there’s one thing I love – it’s aesthetically pleasing bars, restaurants, coffee houses… you name it! If it looks fucking dope, I’m into it! So it’s no wonder why I fell in love with Bar Kindred.
With marbled counter tops, brass accents, and beautiful graphics I couldn’t resist! I’ve only heard a few things here and there about this spot and it wasn’t until I was meeting with a friend I haven’t seen in forever who wanted to go to a restaurant in the same area. Sadly, that restaurant was super packed and we couldn’t stand waiting 2 hours just for a table, so we wandered about and found Kindred. I found the menu to be intriguing, especially because the hostess shared it was all vegan! I’m not vegan, but I loved how they had an extensive menu of things I have not heard of or seen before.
One that caught my eye was the BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich. But alas, I couldn’t try it at the time since my friends chose somewhere else to go. So a week later, or rather, this past Sunday… I had the opportunity of meeting with my friend Caitlin, who was in town for a few days.
After getting coffee together at Heartwork Coffee Bar, we decided to find a place for food and drinks! Ben, one of the baristas at Heartwork shared that there’s a spot called Bar Kindred that has an amazing BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich that is a bang for your buck! SO I TOOK IT AS A SIGN THAT IT WAS MEANT TO BE!
Bar Kindred is a unique space for one of a kind cocktails, delicious vegan food, and just an overall dope vibe. So when Caitlin and I went there, we were greeted by this beautiful woman covered in tattoos with a bubbly personality to match. We took a look at the menu and I couldn’t help but swoon over the typography and the overall design of the place. After taking a look at the beer menu, we ended up with some Modern Times beer and since I came there with the intention of getting the BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich, I knew I had to have it!
Pictured aside from our beers are the Memphis BBQ Jackfruit sandwich and Seared Cauliflower Steak!
And I have to say, Ben was completely right – the BBQ sandwich was the bomb! And if I didn’t know any better it could easily be mistaken for BBQ Pork. CRAZY! And it blew my mind just how similar the texture and taste was! Everything about the sandwich down to the BBQ sauce and bread was all perfection! I also had a taste of Caitlin’s Cauliflower Steak which was pretty great as well. I would definitely come back and try more of their menu! So many unique dishes and cocktails, so little time!
Definitely recommend, meat-eater and non-meat-eater approved! So if you’re looking for something new to try, definitely check them out!
