Beautiful things happen when you support your friends’ hustles. And this past Sunday was the perfect example of that! I had the pleasure of following my best friend, Ian Gutierrez, an upcoming videographer and photographer based here in San Diego as a part of my Follow the Artist series for my blog. Our schedules aligned to where we both got the day off AND I got to be behind the scenes behind one of my blogger friends, Taylor aka Sand and Sequins‘ video that Ian was shooting for!
The day started with an obligatory cup of coffee on our way to Encinitas to meet with Taylor after the rain stopped. We opted for this new spot called Por Vida for their Horchata Lattes that did not disappoint! It was from there that our day took off with nothing but good energy, and a pretty rad day that didn’t result in any rain whatsoever–we got lucky!
We met with Taylor and Ian’s partner in crime, Johnny, another talented photographer and videographer! We were near the coast and the options to shoot were pretty limitless. Aside from being behind the camera to follow Ian around, I even ended up in front of the camera for some b-roll footage for Taylor’s video (WHO AM I!?). From bike rides to coastal views, there was creativity flowing every second.
If there’s one thing I know Ian for, it’s his drive. And his persistence. Ok, two things!
From preparation, shooting, to improvising ideas on the spot, everything was orchestrated as if he’s done it for a million years. It’s a contagious feeling being around passionate people, and Ian radiates his passion and love for creativity and then some. So you can only imagine how stoked I was to actually be behind the scenes and seeing him in his element!
To think that pursuing videography was just a thought he had not even a year ago when we would chat over a cup of coffee. And to be behind the scenes and get to see him in action was so rad, so I already know Taylor’s video is gonna turn out amazing! Super stoked for what he has in store for the next couple of months, so you guys definitely gotta keep a lookout for him, Nuematic Productions, and Egonomics.
It’s crazy how much time flies when you’re in pursuit of your hustle. In his words:
“There’s always room for growth, and I have so much left to learn.” – Ian Gutierrez
This is a rare sight of Ian smiling, promise he isn’t as creepy in real life. Ha! Just kidding! He’s a rad dude that I’m lucky enough to call my best friend.
P.S. If you aren’t familiar with his videos, don’t forget to check our his Vimeo and the video he worked on for my Coffee & Convos project:
