Since it’s Back to School time, I figured I’d dedicate a few posts during the month of September to something school related. The first one being my 10 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Went to College post. This post is taking a turn for the beauty route. I am all about au natural when it comes to school – especially during finals week! But let’s be real, there are just some days we all want to look and feel our best when it comes down to it… whether it be for ourselves or for that cute guy who sits 2 seats away from us in Psychology (hellooooo, cutie!).
I’ve compiled a beauty cheat sheet that is ultimately applicable to anyone, but I thought it would be a good idea to make this for all my college babes out there. I find that this definitely sums up my every day face I wore throughout school – just wanting to look put together and especially awake when the coffee wouldn’t kick in.
Trust me, I know how it feels to be on that broke-college-student-always-eating-instant-noodles-budget and that’s never any fun. But we can’t let that get in our way of a few beauty indulgences here and there! Here are a few of my favorite products that I used during college, and even use to this day for my every day makeup look! Trust me, this look is as simple as it gets when it comes down to it.
You may also notice the asterisks(*) by some of the items on the cheat sheet above – those are all optional! So don’t be afraid to experiment and try new things to spice up your look here and there! Makeup isn’t permanent and the beauty of it is having fun while you figure out what works best for you.
Here are all of the products I use on a daily basis and what I would wear during my college days – whether or not I choose to wear all of them each day fluctuates, some days I feel like I need blush, other days I don’t. I hope this goes without saying, but always start with a fresh cleansed and moisturized face! Moving on to the makeup, here’s the breakdown of the products below:
- Face: I usually start with a tinted moisturizer or foundation, I use The Balm’s BalmShelter for my good skin days and I use L’Oreal True Match when I feel I need more coverage to even out my skin tone. And on those days when I run on a few hours of sleep AKA most of my college career, I would use Garnier Nutrisse Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller in Light – Medium to combat my dark circles and puffy undereyes. For the times when a stubborn pimple comes up, I opt for my concealer palette by Three Custom Color Specialists. To set it all in place so I wouldn’t sweat the products off my face or have them crease, I use my trusty Rimmel Stay Matte Powder – it’s affordable and does the job effectively! For that added color, I opt for this NARS Orgasm/Laguna duo as a cheek color and all-over bronzer (I hear Elf has a great dupe for only $3!).
- Eyes: When I’m in a rush, I curl my lashes and use my waterproof mascara. But most days, I feel naked without my winged eyeliner! So I use NYC’s liquid eyeliner and this stuff is awesome. For only $3, the formula and staying power on this liner is amazing! Definitely my holy grail. When it comes to brows, I’ve been using Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Brow Mousse and the angled brush that comes with it to fill in any sparse areas of my brows for a natural but full look.
- Lips: When I’m out and about, you’ll usually catch me with a bold lip. But most days I’ll just walk out the door with some balm, my choice is Waxelene – an awesome petroleum jelly alternative made with all natural ingredients and also works as a multi purpose beauty product! It leaves my lips super soft and moisturized throughout the day!
There you have it, all of my favorite beauty products I used during college and even to this day. Most of the products are very affordable and can be found at the drugstore. These products have never failed me and I seem to find myself repurchasing them time and time again.
